Need help on a Mercury outboard motor?
I have a 1974 Mercury 110 9.8 HP, that the audience intermittently. It 'only' off ' at any speed (sometimes) and generally Resart with a shot of the starter. The bulb in-line fuel remains difficult, I have to restart the pump motor. Seems a bit 'worse for more time to run. IMHO, it feels like a cut-out electric (I am a tech car, see the engines, but not much experience with outboard) has all new fuel lines and pump bulb, plugs, and new points? (dealer installed, thought it was CDI) Runs Great otherwise, just quits randomly without notice. Any help would be appreciated, TIA! The serial number is 3448025.
In 74 was one point ign maker, I'm thinking and I will know on Monday, IGN, that for sure and give you some information. There were 3 different ign then. Need to control the temperature, which could be heat related, usually runs less 120 degrees, without thermostat. Disconnect the stop switch, which is just a rubber stopper on two contacts, receive the water in them and go crazy. Only a nut do behind the switch and the skin cap, dry and clean. You have the serial number of the engine to be sure IGN and years. Your motor is a 1972-73 with a point of ign maker Thunderbolt. It has a coil of low and high speed under the flywheel with two points and a condenser. Gap Point is, 020. Be ohm test coils of high and low speed the coil at low speed test between the red and yellow leads, 320-400 ohms. coil high-speed blue and yellow 1600 – 2000 ohms. If good evidence, the capacitor is a good bet is going wrong. The only items needed for cleaning and mouth open, the fire when they make contact and do not give much problems.
