Amaryllis Photoperiodism …?
It is the Amaryllis (Hippeastrum sp.) A plant photoperiodic? I planted a few bulbs and buds have formed now … They are under fluorescent light, 24-7 … I was wondering if this light condition that affects blooms next year ..?
I suspect photoperiodism have a amaryllis blooms when a certain effect, but is not the only thing to consider, as a whole is flourishing. Keeping your amaryllis in the light is increasing its ability to produce food they need – and therefore increase the size of the leaves and the length – and finally, the size of the bulb. The leaves are larger and have over a single plant amaryllis, the better chance they have to have flowers when blooms occur. You get the same results, with plants up to the glass amaryllis window. Amaryllis, used as house plants, love to direct sunlight, unlike most plants. I had a flower amaryllis plant freely without going through a period of drying, but most of the time, this dormant or rest period is needed to force that blooms in winter. That has little to do with the number or quality of the blooms, however (and not the end, much to do with your question.) So to answer your question in the most succinctly as possible: Yes, I think photoperiodism has some effect on amaryllis flower, as "when blooms could occur in our homes or in kind (in the Andes and feet with plants found in nature), but the actual number and quality of flowers is really determined by how the bulb is in good health – and how healthy the flower buds are developed inside the bulb – and that has much to do with the size and length of leaves. By the way, is not only a part of photoperiodism Amaryllis cycle of life, so the phenomenon of phototropism (notice how you usually have to turn the pot a plant Amaryllis so that the stalk grow straight and not cause the plant to fall).
