How do I "force" my bulbs after blooming inside?
I bought some tulips in a beautiful type of water container before Christmas. Are so it is cold here in PA, were used in it. Have flourished and are now. I want to be able to bloom again this winter. How do I do this, I will have to continue to buy new bulbs to go into the flowers in winter! I do it with hyacinths?
After all the bulbs have flowered require good light — preferably in the sunny window — it is so that their Photosynthetically leaves can produce food for flowering the following year. Flourish, but once a year. Ideally, they should be planted in soil and their leaves are allowed to grow. Use a fertilizer high in potassium, such as bone meal. Two or three months before you want them to rebloom should be entrusted to "hibernate" — a period of cooling time for rest. It is not practical to put them in freezer is the ideal temperature for hibernation, but it works. If this is the job too, planted outdoors in small pots, when spring comes. Send outside and feed during the summer / autumn months. Back within about 4-6 weeks before you wish for them to flourish. Absolutely must have at least two months or more of this cold rebloom. If you have an Outdoor Garden location is best to plant permanently. Rarely bulbs grown in water to survive. Good luck!
